HOW IT WORKS

Sessions are currently being offered virtually via video therapy. If you are ready to take the first step towards therapy then please use the contact page to request to make an appointment. Before making an appointment you can contact me with any questions you might have via email and I can offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation to think about your needs. We can then arrange an initial assessment where we can understand your eating difficulties better and what you would like from therapy. Assessments can typically last for two sessions and following this I will be able to make recommendations about treatment.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THERAPY

Therapy is a collaborative process and the first stage of therapy is about understanding. The initial consultation will allow us to work together to get a really good understanding of your difficulties. During the initial sessions we will devise a plan of working together so you are clear about how we will address your problems. If we decide that it will be helpful to work together we can think about agreeing to a period of therapy. Psychological therapy is a process of talking, understanding and making changes. It is a journey taken by both client and psychologist in which a safe and contained therapeutic space is created to think about the things that are causing distress. The overarching aim of psychological therapy is to help you make the changes necessary for you to live a better and more meaningful life.

How Long Does Therapy Last

The length of therapy depends on a number of factors for example, how long you have had your eating disorder and how entrenched some of the behaviours might be. Sometimes a shorter number of sessions is required, other times a longer period is useful. I will always discuss this with you and be guided by your needs and the what the evidence suggests for your difficulties. Regular reviews will take place to think about what is working and what might not be working. Sessions are normally weekly and last for 50 minutes.
